What characterizes milestones in technical development? These milestones make the impossible possible! Complex obstacles are overcome while freedom and flexibility increase. All these characteristics apply to THE BARRIER from Pepperl+Fuchs. This new product represents a big step forward for process automation.
This ground-breaking device replaces several traditional modules with a single multi-functional I/O module. Pepperl+Fuchs is the only company providing flexible isolated barriers corresponding to universal input cards of control systems. As an addition to Pepperl+Fuchs’ proven H-System, THE BARRIER is an innovation which especially impacts distributed control system (DCS) manufacturers. To achieve its full functionality, the Universal Barrier only needs an input card with the appropriate flexibility.

    Benefits:

    • One barrier for all signal types
    • Self-adjusting, no settings necessary
    • Flexibility of the barrier improves project performance
    • Short-term changes are possible without any delays
    • Quick, easy, and trouble-free installation
    • Pre-assembled solutions accelerate project implementation
    • Standardized cabinets are possible, low error rate and planning effort
    • On-progress migration without unnecessary downtime or production loss
    • Reduced maintenance effort and easier storage by reduced part diversity
  • pepperl_fuches_200_85 The H-System is a termination board based interface solution with stationary wiring. Modules can be mounted tool-free and replaced during operation without wiring effort.
  • pepperl_fuches_200_85 H-System connects to the control system via a system connector and cable, reducing planning and start-up time. Pre-wired boards and snap-on interface modules make maintenance simple. Combined with minimized space requirements and low power dissipation in the cabinets, the H-System is a cost-effective solution.
  • pepperl_fuches_200_85 K-System isolated barriers offer an extensive range of intrinsic safety interface modules for many signals and applications – from simple isolators to highly functional modules. Furthermore, the signal conditioners are the perfect choice for general-purpose. Both types of modules can be mounted on the same Power Rail. They are clearly differentiated by color as signal conditioners have grey front labels. K-System modules are available in a variety of housing widths so they easily fit into any cabinet or enclosure. Whether one chooses the 12.5 mm KC-modules or the 20mm and 40mm KF-modules, the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the K-System are maintained.

The SK-PC-Z1D1-UU1-10-HS USB intrinsic safety barrier enables a host device (i.e., an industrial PC) that is in a Zone 2 environment to be connected to an EXTA2/EXTA3 keyboard or similar USB device in a Zone 1/21 environment.
The barrier enables operation of input devices, such as PC keyboards and trackballs, within Zone 1/21 and 2/22 hazardous areas. To transmit USB signals from and into hazardous areas, it converts the two USB channels into intrinsically safe circuits.
The device is IP20 rated. It must be protected accordingly from adverse conditions, such as water spray or dirt, that exceed the conditions of pollution degree 2.
As an associated apparatus, the SK-PC-Z1D1-UU1-10-HS barrier is certified to lead intrinsically safe circuits into Zone 1/21 hazardous areas. It is a one-to-one data connector. Data is passed through without buffering. The SK-PC-Z1D1-UU1-10-HS barrier does not provide galvanic insulation.
  • pepperl_fuches_200_85 In process engineering plants such as refineries with exposed building parts or extensive water management systems, surge events can cause disastrous consequences: from damage or destruction of expensive components and machines to breakdown of complete automation systems not including risks to personnel. Besides these dangerous risks to people and environment, overvoltages are still one of the most common causes of damage in electrical plant engineering. They primarily occur due to lightning strikes or switching operations, but also due to the following causes:
    • Electrostatic discharge
    • Brush fire of large electric machines
    • Fluctuations in power supply
    • Ground faults / short circuits
    • Triggering fuses
    • Parallel installation of energy and information technology control systems
Pepperl+Fuchs surge protection modules reliably divert surges and currents to ground and protect people and machines against possible negative consequences. Our product range provides you with powerful surge protection solutions for various applications. Find devices for signal line protection, supply line protection, fieldbus, and wireless solutions.
  • pepperl_fuches_200_85 Z-system zener barriers are available with high density up to 2 channels / 12,5 mm width. Variants with field replaceable fuses provide a convenient means of disconnecting or open-circuiting the instrument loop without interfering with the wiring, making commissioning and maintenance operations much easier.
